The recent financial performance of Sir Andy Murray's hotel business reveals an impressive turnaround, showcasing a profit close to £200,000 after enduring two challenging years marked by six-figure losses. Murray, the celebrated double Wimbledon champion, purchased the charming 16-room Cromlix House Hotel located near his hometown of Dunblane in 2013 for nearly £2 million. Since then, it has transformed into a luxurious five-star establishment, receiving numerous accolades within the hospitality sector, which adds to its appeal.
For several years, the hotel operated under the management of a professional firm. However, in December 2022, both Andy and his wife, Kim, decided to take a more active role in managing the hotel. The latest financial statements, covering the fiscal year up to March 31, 2025, reveal that the hotel’s operating company recorded a profit of £193,379, a stark contrast to the previous year's loss of £369,044.
This resurgence is further evidenced by the hotel’s increase in cash reserves, growing from £242,535 to an impressive £610,494, while simultaneously reducing its liabilities from £1.8 million to £1.6 million. At 38 years old, Murray remains dedicated to financially supporting the hotel, ensuring its sustainability and continued success. The financial accounts explicitly state that the limited liability partnership (LLP) is reliant on members’ support to maintain operations, and such backing has been confirmed.
Cromlix has also become a special venue for Murray and his family, marking significant events in their lives. For instance, Murray celebrated his wedding reception at the hotel in April 2015 after marrying Kim at the nearby Dunblane Cathedral, a location that holds sentimental value as it was also the site of his brother Jamie's wedding.
Recently, Cromlix was recognized as the Hotel of the Year during the prestigious 2024 AA Hospitality Awards. Shortly after, its Glasshouse restaurant was awarded a coveted Michelin Key, highlighting the culinary excellence patrons can expect.
Since taking over the management, the couple has invested significantly in renovations to enhance the guest experience. Currently, the hotel is closed for extensive upgrades, with plans to reopen in May. These renovations include the addition of two new restaurants, a wellness center, and three new suites, including one that is accessible and situated on the ground floor.
On Sunday, the hotel posted a message on its Instagram page announcing the closure, stating: "Today marks the start of an exciting few months as we close for the next stage of our transformation. Our team is all set to pack away the house, but we’re already counting down to 15th May when we’ll welcome you back. While our doors are closed, our team is still here and ready to take your bookings for spring and beyond. Thank you for being part of our story. We can’t wait to share what’s next!"
