The Dallas Wings star, Paige Bueckers, has shared her thoughts on the ongoing CBA negotiations between the WNBA and its players. The league and players' association are at an impasse, with a new collective bargaining agreement yet to be agreed upon by the Jan. 9 deadline. In an interview with ESPN insider Kendra Andrews, Bueckers expressed her stance on the work stoppage, stating, 'There are some things we just won't budge on, and we think that we should stand firm in, and then there are things we think we can meet halfway on.'
This sentiment was echoed by Breanna Stewart, a former league MVP and key figure in organizing the players' stance. She believes there is a middle ground to be found, saying, 'While we are both seemingly far apart, there is a place where we can come and find a mutual ground.'
However, the Las Vegas Aces point guard, Chelsea Gray, also weighed in, suggesting that the two sides may not be as far apart as it seems. She told Andrews, 'That's what negotiating is. There are compromises on both ends. There are some things that we're not willing to compromise on, so there's a standard that we won't go below.'
The tension between the league and players' association is clear, with both sides adamant about their wants and needs. Despite the extension, they have not come close to an agreement, indicating a significant divide. Yet, change is inevitable for the league to operate as it desires. As the negotiations continue, the future of the WNBA hangs in the balance, with fans eagerly awaiting a resolution to this contentious issue.
